In honor of the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up, more than 2,000 old articles for daily use have been on display at an exhibition named Echoes of Our Times at Taiyuan Art Museum.

The exhibition, which runs from Aug 11 to Oct 11, displays ordinary people's daily lives over the past four decades through five themes: education, household utensils, fashion and opening-up.

Ranging from daily necessities to concert tickets, from Taiyuan people's passes for entering Shenzhen in the 1980s and 1990s to photos of the first State-sponsored students who were sent abroad after the start in 1978 of reform and opening-up, the exhibits were collected from or donated by residents of Taiyuan. The exhibits tell stories of individual growth and record changes in the city over the past 40 years.

During the exhibition, a lecture on music by Cui Jian, who pioneered Chinese rock music, a show of family photo albums and an aesthetics salon will also be held to share people's memories about the past.
