Workers at Jinzhong Emergency Medical Rescue Center, North China's Shanxi province, have completed more than 100 hand-drawn maps of the city since 2007, China News Service reported earlier this week.
The move aims to help emergency medical workers recognize their destinations as soon as possible, according to the painters.
"The entire city is in our brains," said Liang Ruimei, who is in charge of dispatching ambulances at the center. "Sometimes, phone callers who report the emergencies can't tell their exact location, but if they tell us some specific buildings nearby, we will get to their address accurately."
"Time is extremely precious to save lives," she said.
