Experts from the China Academy of Urban Planning & Design started a 10-day research program on how to optimize the conservation of the ancient city of Datong on Feb 28, in the city of Datong, Shanxi province.
This research focuses on the conservation plans of historical and cultural cities, streets, renewal guidelines, and designs for landscaping along the main roads, on the basis of scientific and developmental concepts, according to a responsible person from the academy.
In addition, these experts will hold seminars and site investigations to study ancient city buildings, population, land use, public services, infrastructure, survival and livelihood improvement, while at the same time evaluating their conservation status.
The vice-mayor of Datong, Liu Zhenguo attended the serminar, and said that he hoped that the highlights, spotlights and unique characteristics could be seen in the research and the future planning. He added that the government would actively participate and earnestly cooperate with this research team to make greater contributions for the conservation and protection of the ancient city.
