China's National Youth Center Association got the heads of its branches in in Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Guangdong province, Qingdao, Shandong province, Ningbo, Zhejiang province, and five other cities to hold volunteer activities in the rural parts of Datong, Shanxi province, the Datong Evening News reported on Nov 8.

The heads visited pupils at a local primary school, opened an arts center, and donated a lot of teaching devices and daily necessities, such as schoolbags and clothes, as well as musical instruments, including traditional Chinese instruments, and met with the teaching staff to discuss training sessions for local teachers and entertainment activities for their pupils.

The association said the event's purpose was to get its branches involved in youth activities and to improve extracurricular activities across the county, especially in its western, less advantaged part, and in ethnic group areas.
