Pingyao hits top ten for most cost-effective destination

The Ancient City of Pingyao in North China’s Shanxi province, hit the top ten in a list of the 100 most cost-effective tourist destinations this year, based on worldwide data collected by the hotel search website: www.youzhan.com, the Chinese version of the worldwide travel metasearch engine trivago.

It was the second time for Pingyao to be listed, while the first time was in 2014. Besides Pingyao, Lijiang Ancient Town in Southwest China’s Yunnan province was also listed and took the third place. This makes China the only country with two destinations among the top ten attractions.

The list is designed to recommend tourists the most cost-effective destinations in 2015. By taking the accommodation consumption as the main factor, the list has combined feedback from 140 million tourists and the average price of twin rooms in these tourism destinations.

Tourist destinations in the Balkan Peninsula led the list, such as Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Novi Sad in Serbia and Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
