Shanxi University's men's basketball team was crowned champions of the Northwest Division of the Chinese University Basketball Association (CUBA), after scoring an overtime victory against the Taiyuan University of Technology 61-59, on April 24.

The win was hard fought for Shanxi, with the team established only four years ago facing off against their opponents who are frequently referred to as the "King of the Northwest".

Taiyuan got a great start with a 7-0 run before Shanxi's offence got into its stride and hit the scoreboard. In a tense two halves the teams traded baskets right down to the wire, where at the buzzer both teams were tied, sending the game into overtime.

The two teams dueled it out in the tense extra period with the game finally going Shanxi's way, pulling off a nail biting win.

The championship was attributed to the great efforts and tenacious spirit of the players and coaching staff over the past four years.
