National chemical expert gives speech at Shanxi University

The deputy director of the chemistry department of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Liang Wenping, gave a presentation at Shanxi University on May 23.
His speech mainly discussed how to develop China as a country with the latest chemistry technology as well as the strategy for the chemistry discipline during China's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).
In his speech, Liang analyzed the development of basic research of Chinese chemistry and its international status. He pointed out that independent innovation was the key to a nation with high-end chemistry technology.
Liang also put forward suggestions on how to boost innovation and creativity in science and research.
Finally, the young technological workers in attendance took part in a Q&A session.
In the 1980s, Liang graduated from the chemistry department of Peking University and obtained a doctorate degree at Imperial College London. In 1998, he returned to China and was employed by Chinese Academy of Sciences.
