Academic from Chinese Academy of Sciences joins Shanxi University

Han Buxing, an academic at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Chemistry Institute, delivered a speech titled Green Chemistry and Green Carbon Science at Shanxi University on Sept 19 after joining the school as a guest professor.

The researcher and academic, whose research mainly focused on chemical thermodynamics and green chemistry, began his speech by presenting an overview of green chemistry and its role in allowing a balance to be struck between pursuing economic development and protecting natural resources and the environment.

He also explained green carbon science’s great value in tackling issues such as carbon imbalance, pollution and the effective exploitation of carbon resources, as well as possible future challenges for the field.

Han’s speech then turned to the progress his group has made in the green chemistry and green carbon science fields, and initiated discussions about their research and innovation capacity development.

Finally, teachers from Shanxi University’s chemical and environmental engineering school gave an account of their declarations to the National Natural Science Foundation of China talent program, and Han concluded with his pertinent views.

A leading academic in his field, Han is sure to be a great asset to Shanxi University. The new guest professor has published more than 500 papers in peer-reviewed periodicals, including world-famous titles such as Science and Nature Communications, and his work has been cited more than 16,000 times.

He also served as associate editor and editorial board member to a series of prestigious journals. In 2007, he was admitted to the UK’s prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry.
