Duke University scholar speaks at Shanxi University

Doctor Chen Wei from Duke University spent an afternoon with Shanxi University students and teachers at the school’s convention center, delivering a speech about research into cancer drugs on Nov 6.
The speech mainly focused on three parts: the action mode of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR), the clinical research on Niclosamide used for rectal cancer, and the use of targeted medicines to promote the growth of stem cells.
The content of the speech included a vast amount of medical information, particularly on the innovative thinking and methods applied in medical research. Teachers and students were all inspired by Chen’s speech and admired his dedication to research.
Chen Wei, associate professor in medicine, is a member of the Duke Cancer Institute. He graduated from Fudan University with a major in life sciences, and then received his doctorate from the University of Toledo. His major research interests include studying GPCR, TGF-beta and Frizzled receptor trafficking and signaling, as well as their roles in tumor biology.
