Han Suyin Award for Young Translators was initiated by the Chinese Translators Journal in 1989. Twenty years later, it has become a reputable competition for translation with the longest history, the greatest influence, and the largest number of participants in China.

Han Suyin Award for Young Translators, named after Han Suyin, a renowned British-Chinese writer, is organized by the Translators Association of China (TAC). This reputable translation competition is held annually and has the longest history and the highest number of participants in China.

SXU tops nationwide translation contest

Han Suyin (1916-2012), was the pen name of Chinese-British writer and physician Elizabeth Comber. She came to the notice of the Western world with her bestseller love story published in 1952, A Many-Splendoured Thing. She was influential in China especially for her co-sponsorship with the China International Publishing Group for the Han Suyin Award for Young Translators, which has been the most renowned prize for young translators in the country since 1989. It has inspired cross-cultural dialogue and communication, just as she did. The prestigious author died at the age of 95 in 2012 at her home in Lausanne, Switzerland.
