Intangible cultural heritage showcase at SXU
Updated : 2017-01-03
Shanxi University (SXU), the only academic institution in China’s Shanxi province appointed to a trial project aimed at developing intangible cultural heritage inheritors, made a splash showcasing its outcomes on Jan 1.
A work exhibition featuring an array of intangible cultural heritage works commenced at the exhibition hall of the Art College of SXU on the day. Legacies of traditional Chinese folk culture including paper cutting, fabric weaving, carving and baking flowed in the venue receiving high acclaim from masses of spectators.
These works, representing the highest level of some of the country’s finest crafts, were created by a group of artisans who had spent a month polishing their skillsets at the university. Among them were craft masters of all ages, from a 18-year-old brick carving apprentice to a 70-year-old mold producer, carrying forward the spirit of craftsmanship.
Zheng Zhongxia, one of the exhibition attendees and top officials of Shanxi province’s cultural department, was impressed by the diverse array of works and vowed further governmental support to preserve the precious intangible cultural heritages.
