More than 70 Chinese teenagers from around the world gathered in Hong Kong from June 29 to July 2, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its return to China. Wu Qin and Cheng Cheng, students at Shanxi University, both took part in the activity.
The young people were all born in July 1997 when Hong Kong returned from British rule and the Hong Kong Special Administration Region was established under the "one country, two systems" formula.
They brought soil and water from their hometowns and planted 35 orchid trees in the shape of a heart at the top of Taiping Mountain.
The orchid tree flower is the symbol of Hong Kong, while the soil and water embody the bond between Hong Kong and Chinese people around the world.
During the event, teenagers exchanged ideas with each other and expressed their hopes for a bright future.
