A team from Shanxi University (SXU) was honored for its achievements at China’s 1st Youth Wireless Direction Finding Competition held in Xinmi, Henan province on July 26.
A total of 293 students from 16 universities, nine senior high schools and 16 junior middle schools took part in the contests.
SXU students won top prizes in both group and individual competitions, including second place for team direction finding on the 80m wave band, and for military group direction finding on the 2m wave band.
Yang Ruihua won second place during the women’s speed direction finding on the 2m wave band. Zhang Yiran won third place in the women’s speed direction finding on the 80m wave band. And Zhang Shuai ranked seventh in the men’s speed direction finding on the 80m wave band.
Direction finding by wireless is a sport which resembles hide-and-seek. In an open air environment, organizers hide electronic oscillators that transmit radio signals, while participants carry radio direction finders to try to locate the signals. The aim is to find the most signals in the shortest time.
