Shanxi University (SXU) convened a commencement ceremony to welcome 5,963 undergraduates, 2,114 postgraduates and 110 overseas students for the new semester on Sept 14.

Jia Suotang, chancellor of SXU, delivered a speech during the ceremony. SXU is recognized as one of the most profound and prestigious universities in China, dedicating itself to cultivating talents in various different sectors, Jia introduced.

As a member of Shanxi University, we should uphold the principles of having an all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique and art, and pursue the spirits of innovation and creation, and shoulder social responsibilities, added Jia.

Young people need to master diverse knowledge and abilities to adapt to future challenges as well as opportunities, said Jia. Students from Shanxi University should always adhere to the pursuit of truth and morality, and aspire to make contributions in individual research fields.

Officials gave awards and scholarships to excellent recruits at the ceremony.
