Updated : 2017-09-25
Zhou Fei, recognized as the top baritone in Shanxi province, gave a solo concert at the hall of the Academy of Music of Shanxi University (SXU) on Sept 8.
He performed a score of classic operatic songs from Italy, France and Spain, winning repeated rounds of applause from the concert audience.
Born in 1990 in Anhui province, Zhou began to learn vocal music at Weinan Normal College in 2008. Professor Wang Liang from SXU was impressed by Zhou’s singing and introduced him to become a music teacher at SXU.
In 2014, Zhou was admitted to the Academy of Music of SXU to pursue a master’s degree. In the same year, he won third place at the National College Singing Contest. In recent weeks, Zhou has won titles for operatic singing competitions and received honors recognizing him as an outstanding music teacher.
Earlier in June, Zhou participated in the 22nd Italy Orvieto International Singing Contest and won an award. During the final concert, he sang Verdi Aria’s version of My Hours Are Slumberless, receiving a Piacenza Opera Award. Zhou has since been invited to go to Turin to give a solo concert.
