The organizing committee of the Challenge Cup, a national competition, praised Shanxi University student Guo Peixiang by including his name in a book collecting representatives of winners of the competition, which was released at the 15th Challenge Cup held in Shanghai from Nov 14 to 19.
The National Challenge Cup is a competition for extra-curricular scientific and technological inventions for mainland university students. Supported by the Ministry of Education, China Communist Youth League, China Association for Science and Technology, and the All-China Students Federation, this biennial event was first hosted by Tsinghua University in 1989. It is considered one of the most important national competitions that pool together top young innovative minds from across the country.
The book was compiled by the China Communist Youth League and the organizing committee, with the aim of collecting the winners of the competition over the past 30 years. Among the winners, Guo Peixiang, a doctoral student studying in the history department at Shanxi University, was selected to be one of 16 representatives chosen for special demonstration.
Since Guo was a freshman, he has visited over 150 villages in Shanxi province for academic research. The book commended him as a socially responsible college student who had combined academic research with social concern.
