A ceremony to grant scholarships to excellent college students from disadvantaged backgrounds was organized at Shanxi University (SXU) in Taiyuan on Jan 12, during which 150,000 yuan ($23,300) was distributed among 30 students thanks to a donation from Shanxi Jinshang Culture Foundation.
Li Maosheng, director of Shanxi Jinshang Culture Foundation, claimed that the foundation will support those disadvantaged students to strive for their scientific or academic study and research and then contribute their talent and energy to the society.
Hou Jiaxin, a scholarship receiver from School of Politics and Public Administration of SXU, expressed her gratitude toward the foundation during the scholarship granting ceremony.
Jinshang, also known as Shanxi merchants, were one of the most prominent business groups in ancient China, they primarily dealt with exchange banks and salt industry.
