Dariush M Doust, a philosophy expert from Sweden, was appointed as the professor of Shanxi University (SXU) on July 6.

Yang Jun, vice-chancellor of SXU, delivered the letter of appointment to Doust.

The appointment ceremony received the attendance of officials and teachers from the school’s human resources department, foreign affairs office, and the school of philosophy and sociology.

To start off the ceremony, Yang expressed a warm welcome and gratitude to Professor Doust on behalf of the school. Later, he introduced the long history of Shanxi University and its tradition of communicating with foreign universities and experts.

He pointed out that the subject of philosophy is the key discipline of the school, and Professor Doust will bring new vitality to the development of the discipline and enhance the academic research in the sector.

Yin Jie, vice-chancellor of SXU, praised Professor Doust's academic accomplishment. He pointed out that the field of Professor Doust has researched involves the most critical issues in the study of contemporary philosophy.

As a full-time professor, Professor Doust will promote the development of philosophical subjects in personnel training and discipline construction, and will also promote the continuous expansion and deepening of international exchanges of Shanxi University, added Yin.

Professor Doust expressed his sincere gratitude to the invitation of Shanxi University. He said that the school of philosophy and sociology of Shanxi University has a sound historical tradition and foundation. He said that it shows a positive development potential and he is extremely delighted to join the team and hopes to make contributions.

Professor Doust is the first full-time foreign professor introduced in the philosophy department of Shanxi University. He was a professor of philosophy at the Swedish National Academy of Arts, a full-time lecturer at Beijing Normal University, and a professor of philosophy at Soderton University in Sweden.

At present, he is a class-A foreign expert approved by the Foreign Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Education of China.

His main research fields include German classical philosophy, European continental philosophy, and contemporary radical philosophy, especially Lacan's psychoanalytic philosophy and Kant's philosophy.
