Principal Huang Guitian on behalf of Shanxi University attended the 2019 Beijing Forum, which was held in Beijing on Nov 1-3.

Approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education and under the auspices of the Beijing Municipal Government, the Beijing Forum is an international event co-sponsored by Peking University, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies.

The general theme of the Beijing Forum was: “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All”.

The organizers said the Beijing Forum aims to promote the study of humanities and social sciences around the world. It endeavors to promote academic developments and social progress across the world, in order to contribute to the development and prosperity of humanity.

The Beijing Forum, which was initiated in 2004, is held annually. This year saw the participation of more than 500 people, including well known politicians and noted academics from more than 40 countries and regions around the world. 

Principal Huang Guitian gave a keynote speech at an event entitled "Cooperation by Chinese and African Universities in the Transformation and Scientific and Technological Innovation". In it he expounded on the profound changes in the status and function of contemporary universities, and the important missions undertaken in scientific and technological innovation, and in the commercialization of scientific research achievements.

Huang also gave a brief introduction of the achievements that Shanxi University has made on strengthening the advantages of scientific research and technology, cultivating regional leading industries and gathering innovative elements.

He also discussed pushing forward the international operations of universities and boosting school administrative cooperation with representatives from universities in Africa.
