German scholar hired as SXU visiting professor

At the invitation of the Institute of Molecular Science at Shanxi University, professor Beate Paulus from the Free University of Berlin in Germany made an academic visit to SXU on Nov 15-16.

During the two-day trip, professor Paulus paid a field trip to the Institute of Molecular Science, the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and SXU’s Large Instrument Center.

At a meeting between professor Paulus and teachers and students at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, developments in the discipline of chemistry and training of personnel were discussed.

Professor Paulus also discussed academic exchanges and cooperation between undergraduates, graduate students and visiting scholars at the Free University of Berlin.

In addition, the two sides studied possible scientific research cooperation mechanisms and joint graduate training models.

On the afternoon of Nov 15, a ceremony to celebrate professor Paulus’ appointment as visiting professor of Shanxi University was held.

Li Sidian, deputy Party secretary of Shanxi University on behalf of SXU conferred the letter of offer to professor Paulus.

Professor Paulus also presented an academic report entitled "Surface Science - An Insight from Theory".

In the report, she expounded on the rich research results her team had achieved over the years.

She also demonstrated the multi-dimensional applications of theoretical model methods in the field of material interface and catalytic process calculations, discovery, characterization and design.

About Beate Paulus

Beate Paulus is an internationally renowned theoretical chemist, professor and director of the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Free University of Berlin in Germany.

She obtained her doctorate at the University of Regensburg in Germany and the Max Planck Complex System Physics Institute in 1995.

She has years of research experience in materials science, surface adsorption processes and electronic structures of two-dimensional materials, host-guest chemistry and fluorine chemistry.

She has published 155 academic papers in domestic and international professional journals.
