Updated : 2020-03-30
Shanxi University (SXU) recently agreed to jointly build a new Confucius classroom at the East Timor Institute of Business, located in the capital city of Dili in the Southeast Asian nation located above Australia, according to SXU officials.
The Confucius classroom at the institute is Shanxi University's second Confucius classroom following, in the United States, the Confucius Institute at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
It is also the university's first Confucius classroom in Southeastern countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, which will further the university's international communications and cooperation as well as contribute to the promotion of the Chinese culture.
Covering 14,900 square kilometers at the eastern end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, East Timor -- whose official languages are Tetum and Portuguese -- established diplomatic relations with China on May 20, 2002.
The East Timor Institute of Business, founded in East Timor's capital Dili in 2002, is the country's biggest and leading private college.
The Confucius classroom at the institute is the first of its kind in the country.
