There are many Buddhist activities on Mount Wutai. Among the well-known activities are the grand Tiaobuzha ceremony as well as the grand Mule and Horse Fair held around the 15th day of June on the lunar calendar.
Originating from Tibet, the Tiaobuzha ceremony is an annual grand Buddhist event of Gelug (the newest school of Tibetan Buddhism) in Mount Wutai. This event is held for the purpose of dispelling evil spirits and bringing in auspiciousness and peace.
In June of the lunar calendar each year, a Mule and Horse Fair will be held with grand Buddhist activities, folk cultural activities and a mule-and-horse trading assembly. The event usually involves monks from all over the country, who perform religious rites and chant Buddhist scripture, endowing Mount Wutai with mysterious charm.
