Peking University sets up outdoor classroom in Mount Wutai

Known as "China’s Geological Museum," Mount Wutai became an outdoor classroom for the students from the Department of Geology at the School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University, which will carry out a 10-day onsite exploration in the summer.

Peking University set up a geology teaching base in Mount Wutai in 2005. The university has trained hundreds of professionals and made tremendous contribution to geological theory in the past decade.

Meanwhile, the cooperation provided important support to the popularization of science in Mount Wutai.

Lead Teacher Wei Chunjing said that geology requires field investigation and the onsite investigation will sharpen students´skills.

Yang Jinyuan, a student from the Department of Geology, said that the outdoor classroom is a learning experience which will greatly expand thinking about geology.
