Peking University Mount Wutai Earth Science Teaching Base unveils

The contract signing and unveiling ceremony of Peking University Mount Wutai Earth Science Teaching Base was held in Mount Wutai on July 11.

Liu Jiankung, deputy secretary of Mount Wutai county committee; Zhang Xingsheng, investigator of Mount Wutai Administration Committee; Zhou Hui, director of Scientific Research Department of Peking University; Zhang Lifei, dean of the School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University; and Liu Jianfei, vice-dean of the School of Earth and Space Sciences attended the ceremony.

The contract signing and unveiling ceremony was chaired by Zheng Binxiu, director of Mountain Wutai Forest Park.

During the ceremony, representatives of Mount Wutai Administration Committee and Peking University signed the "Peking University Mount Wutai Earth Science Teaching Base agreement," and unveiled the nameplate for Peking University Mount Wutai Earth Science Teaching Base.

Liu Jiankun said that Mount Wutai is a key national scenic spot, national forest park, and national geological park. It is one of China's first 38 World Heritage sites, and the second World Heritage in China. With rich strata, Mount Wutai holds an important position in the field of geology. Peking University set up a geology teaching base in Mount Wutai in 2005. The university has trained hundreds of professionals and made tremendous contribution to geological theory in the past decade. Meanwhile, the cooperation provided important support to the popularization of science in Mount Wutai.

Liu Jianbo expressed gratitude to Mount Wutai for its constant support to the teaching base. He said that Mount Wutai is a core area for geological research of north China and students who interned at the teaching base for onsite investigation have found a lot of geology classical phenomenon and learned a lot. Since the launching in 2005, the teach base has trained hundreds of professionals. He hoped that both sides could work together closely based on the teaching base and make new geography science research breakthroughs.
