Strong cold weather to hit Shanxi province

The province of Shanxi will encounter snowfall, strong winds and cooling weather in the coming days, the Shanxi Meteorological service announced on Jan 20, Shanxi Evening News has reported.

The temperature will drop by 8 to 10 ℃, or even by 12℃ to -14 ℃ to -30 ℃ from Jan 22 to 24, predicted to be the lowest period of the winter.

According the weather forecast, there will be clouds in the daytime on Jan 21 and slight snow in the cities of Datong, Shuozhou, Xinzhou, Lvliang, Taiyuan, Yangquan, Jinzhong, Changzhi, and Linfen. The highest temperature will be -7 to -3℃ in the north, -3 to 0℃ in the central and southern mountainous area, and 0 to 4℃ in other parts of the southern area.

From nighttime of Jan 21 to daytime of Jan 22, the province will see a dramatic decline in temperatures, which will drop to -24 in alpine regions, to -19 to -15℃ in northern parts, to -15 to -10℃ in central and southern areas, and -10 to -5℃ in some southern regions.

Meteorology experts said people going outside need to keep warm and those with heart diseases and asthma, or sensitive to temperature change should avoid outdoor activities.

Farmers are advised to take protective measures for vegetables, flowers and fruits.
