KUNMING -- The World Judicial Conference on Environment concluded Thursday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, with the adoption of "the Kunming Declaration of the World Judicial Conference on Environment."

The declaration noted that the rule of law has an irreplaceable and important role in global environmental governance. It is necessary to continue to deepen international cooperation and exchanges in environmental justice, jointly fight against the global environmental crises, jointly promote green, low-carbon, circular economies and sustainable development, and work together to realize the vision of living in harmony with nature.

According to the declaration, countries around the world should enhance the judicial response to the environmental crisis so as to address climate change and its effects, conserve biodiversity, and prevent and control environmental pollution.

Diversified judicial measures are advocated in the declaration, including actively adopting preventive judicial measures, preferentially applying restorative judicial measures, exploring and improving the public interest litigation system, and encouraging the use of diversified dispute resolution methods.

The declaration also pointed out that the professional development of environmental justice should be promoted by enhancing the professional capacity of environmental justice, increasing the application of information technology such as artificial intelligence, big data and blockchain, and deepening international cooperation and exchanges.

Themed "The Role of the Judiciary in Advancing Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth," the conference was held from Wednesday to Thursday.
