Top court releases typical cases of maritime trials in 2021
To mark World Ocean Day, which falls on June 8, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) released 10 typical cases of maritime trials in 2021 to highlight the importance of maritime judicature in protecting marine ecology, promoting the marine economy and safeguarding maritime rights.
The cases reflected the courts' resolution to firmly safeguard the country's maritime rights and interests by exercising maritime jurisdiction. They also promoted the development of the marine economy by protecting the ecological environment of the ocean and the navigable waters. Through these case trials, courts facilitated the recovery of international shipping and trade after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, by giving full play to the maritime judicial functions. The release of the cases also enhanced China’s international credibility in maritime justice where international treaty obligations were observed, judgement standards unified and laws of different countries accurately applied.
