A total of 116 units from Tai'an City, Shandong province have been selected as rural tourism demonstration sites in 2015, according to a list recently released by the Shandong Provincial Tourism Bureau.
Tai'an attaches a great deal of importance to the development of rural tourism. It has continuously invited rural tourism professionals to give thematic lectures about tourism planning and product development.
Currently, the city has 59 industrial and agricultural tourism demonstration sites, 35 provincial-level tourism counties, 72 provincial-level special tourism villages and 264 farm-based tourism sites. It received financial support of nearly 10 million yuan ($1.52 million) from the bureau to develop rural tourism in the first half of 2015.
Tai'an is situated at the foot of Mount Taishan, which was designated as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage site in 1987.
