It got the name because of the offering sacrifices to the mother of the Big Dipper. It was first a Taoist temple and then transformed into a nunnery in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The palace is a group of closely-distributed ancient architectures. In the fore yard, there are the Natural Pool, Mother-son Scholar Trees, Jiyun Building. In the middle yard is the major hall where enshrines the "Buddha of Intelligence".
