Tai'an run collects winter supplies for poor students
The Mount Tai 100 International Trail Running Race Committee held a public donation to gather winter supplies for poor students in Tai'an on Dec 13.
On behalf of runners who participated in a run in Tai'an, held on Oct 13, the committee gave out winter supplies worth 100,000 yuan ($14,492) to poor students including fleeces, gloves, neckerchiefs and hand creams. These supplies will help 200 children from poor families get through the winter.
The committee jointed hands with the Shandong Charity Association and Mount Tai scenic spots to sponsor the race. The sponsors agreed to donate public goods worth 100,000 yuan to students when the accumulated mileage reached 100,000 kilometers.
The total mileage reached 248,780 kilometers on race day on Oct 13, exceeding the challenge goal. A total of 23,857 runners took part in the run, running distances of either 20, 40 or 100 kilometers.
Hosted by the Tai'an government and Chinese Athletics Association, this year's run aimed to raise awareness of the good that sports can do in fighting poverty and further promote the local culture of Mount Tai.
