Tai'an, a city in East China's Shandong province, received about 220,000 visitors to its 13 scenic areas during the five-day May Day holiday which ended Tuesday, according to the Tai'an Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.
Tourism revenue generated during the period totaled 14.6 million yuan ($2.1 million), and the safety of tourists was made a priority throughout the holiday, as COVID-19 control and prevention remains a priority, even as measures are taken to revive tourism, officials said.

Due to a requirement by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Health Commission requiring domestic attractions to limit the number of visitors to under 30 percent of normal capacity during the holiday, Mount Tai, Tai'an's most famous scenic area, received less than 34,000 visitors each day and closed its gates temporarily when 29,000 visitors were in the park at once.
Visitors to Mount Tai were required to book tickets online in advance using their real names. They could choose from three time periods when booking tickets: 0:00 am to 8:00 am, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and 4:00 pm to 12:00 am.
In order to improve efficiency and service quality, a total of 60 Health QR Code notices, nine automatic temperature detectors, and 30 facial recognition self-service check-in gates were installed at Mount Tai during the holiday.
In addition, many tourist attractions held events to help revive tourism, with night views of Tai'an Old Street proving particularly popular among locals.
