Feicheng, a county-level city in Tai'an, East China's Shandong province, was shortlisted for the 2020 list of China's happiest cities, local media reported.
The list is sponsored by the Oriental Outlook magazine, and a total of 10 prefectural-level cities and 10 county-level cities will eventually be selected based on surveys, questionnaires, documents and materials, field investigations, and professional evaluation.
This year's survey will focus on urban management and efforts to build a "moderately prosperous society in all respects".
The survey will focus on nine areas, including employment, resident income, quality of life, natural environment, and urban attractiveness.
Feicheng has seen rapid development in recent years. The city's regional gross domestic product reached a value of 69.02 billion yuan ($10.05 billion) in 2019, ranking first among all counties and districts in Tai'an.
The city enjoys strong investment potential, focuses strongly on scientific and technological innovation, and promotes ecofriendly development.
The city is also making efforts to improve local living standards. It has built, renovated, or expanded 63 projects and helped 76 provincial-level and municipal-level impoverished villages out of poverty.
In 2019, the per capita disposable income among urban and rural residents rose by 7.1 percent and 9.5 percent, respectively.
