Tai'an in Shandong province and Mont-Saint-Michel in France discussed an agreement signing between their scenic spots, Mount Tai and the Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay, as well as cooperation plans via a video conference on April 15.
Officials from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shandong Provincial People's Government, the Tai'an government, the French Embassy in China, and the government of Mont-Saint-Michel attended the conference.
In recent years, Tai'an has been bolstering efforts to develop its cultural and tourism industries and further promote the influence of Mount Tai to the world, said Zhang Tao, mayor of Tai'an.
The two cities – Tai'an and Mont-Saint-Michel – have carried out tourism development, protection and promotion cooperation exchanges since they established an official friendship in 1997, Zhang said.
The video conference will further strengthen the two cities' cooperation in sectors such as economy and trade, culture, tourism, and education, Zhang added.
Mount Tai was listed as a UNESCO natural and cultural heritage site since 1987 and Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay was added to UNESCO world heritage site in 1979.
