China will launch its new generation of carrier rocket, the "Long March-5" in 2014. The launch will be a breakthrough for Chinese space technology.
The design and technological standard for the "Long March 5" has been set and scientists have begun early research and production. The carrier rocket will feature advanced facilities developed by Chinese scientists. The chief designer of the rocket said "Long March 5" will be pollution-free and able to carry items two or three times heavier than present designs.
The new rocket will be able to send heavier satellites into space and launch more than one satellite at one time. Scientists say this will help to build space stations and labs.
Meanwhile, China has begun the construction of a carrier rocket production base in the coastal city of Tianjin. The base will produce 20 to 30 carrier rockets each year.
