The construction of a one million ton-ethylene a year was completed in the northern coastal city of Tianjin on Wednesday.
The plant is invested in by China Petrochemical Corp (Sinopec), the nation's largest oil refiner, to meet rising demand for the raw material for plastics and synthetic fibers.
Sinopec said the plant is scheduled to put on stream before the end of this year.
The plant, with a total investment of 26.8 billion yuan, is expected to draw 100 billion yuan for its supporting projects.
