On January 14, reporters learned from several Beijing train ticket outlets that tickets for the Beijing-Tianjin intercity high-speed multiple unit trains, which were previously sold only at train stations, can now be bought at tickets outlets.
A salesman from a train ticket outlet at Chaoyangmenwai Avenue said that the outlet has received a notice from railway authorities approving all outlets connected with the train ticket sales network to sell tickets for the Beijing-Tianjin intercity high-speed multiple unit trains (trains whose number starts with the letter C). Different from the blue magnetic strip tickets sold by train stations, tickets bought from the outlets for the Beijing-Tianjin intercity trains are pink and made of paper, and the outlets will charge 5 yuan in handling fees per ticket. At present, the advance-booking period for this kind of ticket is 10 days.

At present, passengers at the Beijing South Railway Station should swipe their plastic magnetic strip tickets or provide their paper tickets to officials for inspection before boarding. Passengers who bought paper tickets at ticket outlets for the Beijing-Tianjin intercity trains can also successfully get on the train.
After the Beijing-Tianjin intercity railway officially opened in August 2008, passengers could only buy tickets for the Beijing-Tianjin trains at train stations, including Beijing South Railway Station, Beijing Railway Station and Beijing West Railway Station, because the only tickets sold for these trains were of the plastic magnetic strip variety, and the plastic magnetic strip tickets were not available at ticket outlets.
