Supermarket chain operator Wumart Stores Inc is accelerating the pace of new store openings to tap rising consumer spending on groceries and daily necessities.

The retailer will add as many as 85 outlets this year, more than double last year's figure, mainly in Beijing, Tianjin and Zhejiang province, Chief Financial Officer Xu Ying said. Wumart had 469 stores as of December, after opening 34 in 2009.
