In order to further promote the opening-up of Tianjin Binhai New District, the State Council approved to incorporate Tianjin Port East Free Trade Zone on August 31, 2006. It occupies an area of 10 sq km, with 5.6 sq km for the Terminal Operation Zone and 4.4 sq km for Logistics Processing Zone. The first 4 sq km were completed in late 2007. The Logistics Processing Zone has been put into operation, composing of six 2,300m-long container berths, 58 warehouses, a yard over 600,000 sq km, as well as facilities for customs supervision and all office business in the port. The container has broken through 8 million TEU, attracting more than 700 domestic and foreign enterprises. In 2012, Tianjin Port East Free Trade Zone was completed and put into use.

By the end of 2011, an area of 30 sq km in Tianjin East Port was integrated as land, with two mainlines running through. The international cruise mother terminal and 2,000 m-long artificial beaches have been put into use. In the Integrated Support Service Zone on the east, the Five-star Hotel, Yacht Leisure Center, Financial Trade & Service Center and International Commodity Sales Exhibition were scaled up and put into use.

So far, Tianjin East Port has integrated shipping logistics, export processing, financing & leasing, HQ settlement and other industries, gradually exerting its superiority in wine, auto, new energy and other sectors. Now, it has attracted a number of high-end clients, such as GeeVino wines, Benz VPC and Yingli PV.
