The cruise ship SuperStar Virgo, owned and operated by Star Cruises, entered Tianjin Port on the past National Day holiday. Following Dalian, SuperStar Virgo took Tianjin as its second home port in China and plans seven voyages to Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Beppu, Nagasaki and other selected destinations in Japan.
SuperStar Virgo, with a total displacement of more than 75,000 tons, is 268 meters long and 32 meters wide. It has 935 guest rooms with a capacity of 1,868 passengers. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
This season, the route is themed on the Japanese manga character Doraemon. According to Hong Maolin, the president of Star Cruises, they are as always committed to providing diversely themed journeys to best meet customers' needs.
The current route is tuned to the golden autumn season, lasts five to six days and is perfect for a family getaway. There is a stand-up comedy show, and Broadway plays are especially arranged for elders.
The introduction of SuperStar Virgo is just Star Cruises dipping its toes in the water and learning the lie of the Tianjin market, according to Lin Junyan, senior vice president of Star Cruises. Consequently, it will not be impossible to see top luxury liners like Genting Dream or World Dream entering Tianjin if SuperStar Virgo performs well.
Accordingly, SuperStar Virgo will be renovated and upgraded to join the Dream series under a new name, "Explorer Dream". Then it will return to Tianjin Port to provide more attractive and competitive service for its seagoing customers.
