The Yuzhen Palace in Wudang Mountain will be reconstructed to avoid flood damage. Two years later, the palace will "rise"12 meters.
Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty built the palace in 1412 to commemorate Zhang Sanfeng, a Taoist and Tai Chi master. It is one of the nine palaces on Wudang Mountain. While the palace stands at 165 meters above sea level, it will be submerged during the South-to-North Water Transfer Project and the completion of the Danjiangkou Dam Heightening Works.
After discussions, the cultural relics department decided to uplift the palace. They tore down buildings after the soil foundation were filled up. The main gate of the palace and the gates of the East and West palaces were lifted through a jack-up technique.
