Wudang Mountain in Hubei province is renowned for its well preserved taoist palaces and temples dating back to the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. These palaces and temples together were included on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1994.
The Five Dragon Ancestral Temple, the Yuxu Palace, the Grand Purple Cloud Palace, the Yuzhen Temple, the South Cliff Palace and the Palace of Harmony are the most famous sites. And all these buildings have long been known for their grandeur and scale.
The buildings were carefully designed, arranged and spaced so that echoes bounce between them. Construction began in 1412 and was completed 12 years later. The Mountain is also celebrated for its natural beauty made up of peaks, rock outcroppings, streams, caves, springs and ponds. It's a fantastic place to visit year-round.
