Experts in the Hubei Provincial Department of Land Resources have approved Wudang National Geopark and have applied to the Ministry of Land and Resources for the official name.

Before acceptance, the experts performed field research at Golden Summit, Prince Slope, the Wudang Geological Museum and other scenic spots on Wudang Mountain. After thorough assessment, the experts discussed and appraised the construction of the national geological park.

The unique geological structure of Wudang Mountain formed 1.3 billion years ago. The structure of the Qinling fold belt is a rare specimen for the study of sedimentary evolution.

Since Wudang Mountain became a qualified national geological park by the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2009, Wudang National Geopark has made remarkable results in planning the park, protecting geological heritages and launching popularization activities.

There are four other national geological parks in Hubei, including the Yun county dinosaur egg fossil, Shennongjia Nature Park, Three Gorges, and Mulan Mountain in Huangpi of Wuhan.
