Passengers in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, will be banned from eating in subways, a local newspaper reported on Wednesday.

This makes Wuhan the first city in China to ban eating in subways through legislation.

The ban resulted from a transportation management regulation approved by the people's congress in the city. It still needs approval from the provincial people's congress before taking effect.

According to the regulation, other banned behaviors include parking or selling goods in or within 50 meters of subway stations, using skateboards or wearing roller skates, busking or lying down in stations and treading on seats.

Passengers who do not obey the rules will be asked to correct their behavior. Those who refuse will be fined a maximum of 200 yuan ($32).
