The 2014 Shiyan Municipal Tourism Conference will be held in the Wudang Mountains Tourism and Economic Special Region in Shiyan city, Hubei province, on Feb 26.
Li Faping, vice-mayor of Shiyan city and director of Wudang Mountains special region working committee, and Long Chunlai, deputy secretary of Shiyan Municipal People’s Government, discussed the preparation of the tourism conference at a meeting held on Feb 12, wudangshan.gov.cn reported.
A series of activities will be held during the conference, including an expert forum, an awards ceremony, and the establishment of a tourism association.
People in charge of tourism in different districts and counties will be invited to discuss the development of local tourism industries at the conference. Li pointed out at the meeting that conducting cooperation in tourism was an essential way to break regional monopolies and expand the tourism industry.
Last year, focusing on the construction of the Tai Chi Lake ecotourism area, Wudang special region effectively dealt with the weak domestic tourism market.
Wudang received 5 million visitors from home and abroad in 2013, realizing tourism revenues of 2.5 billion yuan ($412.3 million), year on year, increasing 19 percent, Li added.
Long said at the meeting that the Wudang Mountains tourist attraction leads the tourism industry in Shiyan, and the surrounding areas would also benefit from the tourism conference, through which more cooperation will also be promoted.
After the meeting, the participants also visited some popular streets and parking lots within the special region.
