Overall planning for Shiyan Wudang Mountains Airport was approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)’s Central and Southern Regional Administration and Shiyan Municipal People’s Government, in Hubei province on May 8, Shiyan Daily reported.
According to the scheme, Wudang Mountains Airport will be built as a domestic regional airport following the 4C standard in the short term – which means twin-engined, medium-range narrow-bodied aircraft can be used – and the 4D standard in the longer term, which allows similar wide-bodied aircraft.
By 2020, the visitor throughput at Wudang Mountains Airport is expected to reach 900,000, with cargo throughout at 2,700 tons and the annual number of take-offs and landings at around 10,750.
By 2025, the visitor throughput at Wudang Montains Airport will reach 1.2 million, the cargo throughout 3,700 tons and the annual number of take-offs and landings will be over 16,000.
By 2045, the visitor throughput at the airport could reach over three million, the cargo throughout 10,000 tons and the annual number of take-offs and landings over 33,000.
