The construction of the Wudang Mountains Airport terminal is nearing completion, according to the Wudang Mountains Airport Construction Affairs Bureau. Crews are working on perfecting furnishings in the terminal area at present. And according to earlier reports from government authorities, the airport is expected to complete in its entirety in 2016.
Officials from the Wudang Mountains Airport Construction Affairs Bureau said that the main shell of the airport is scheduled to be completed in August and the airport's functional areas will be constructed progressively.
Wudang Mountains airport is located in Shiyan city, in central China's Hubei province and is part of a series of planned airports under the country's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15). With a total investment of 2.5 billion yuan ($407.09 million), the airport will cover an area of 30,000 square kilometers and contain a 2,600-meter runway.
Once completed, the trip between Shiyan and Wuhan will be shortened to 45 minutes. The airport will also open routes from Shiyan to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Xi'an.
Tourism in Wudang Mountains is restricted due to the lack of air transportation provision. The new airport will significantly boost Wudang's tourism growth and help Shiyan build a comprehensive transport system covering road, rail, water and air transport.
