The seventh Eco-Agriculture and Food Safety Forum for the Belt and Road will be held in Xiamen, Fujian province, on September 8 and 9, simultaneously with the 2016 China International Fair for Investment & Trade.
The forum aims to strengthen agricultural cooperation among Belt and Road nations. The debates will revolve around the construction of an industrial chain to secure food safety and the promotion of farm produce.
The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade are the organizers of the forum.
Top political advisors and officials of various departments of the central government, especially the members of the task group for rural work, have been invited to share their insights at the forum.
The forum will announce a dedicated fund to benefit the Belt and Road nations. Another piece of news to be made public will be that Fujian province will be linked to the Agricultural Products and Food Exchange Platform for Belt and Road Nations.
About the Agricultural Products and Food Exchange Platform
The construction of the platform was unveiled at the 2015 Euro-Asia Economic Forum last September by former foreign minister Li Zhaoxing, deputy director of the Food and Drug Administration Teng Jiacai, and former Kazak Prime Minister Sergey Tereshchenko. The Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council's annual assembly announced in December that the platform had gone online.
In January 2016, Spain became the first Belt and Road nation to reach out to the platform when the Spanish city Guijuielo signed a cooperation agreement.
In March, the Boao Forum for Asia announced that the platform's online structure was operational and welcomed participation from around the world.
Henan province's agricultural and food manufacturing companies were linked to the platform in April and Shaanxi province's enterprises in the same fields came on board in May.
