Belt, Road boosts development of Xiamen logistics industry

Businesses active with Belt and Road countries emerged as major sources for the logistics industry in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province in the first quarter of this year, according to the local transport bureau.
In the first three months of 2019, the total revenue of the logistics industry in Xiamen saw a 12.19 percent year-on-year increase to 26.2 billion yuan ($3.89 billion).
Xiamen port delivered 50.25 million tons of cargo during the same period, an uptick of 1.87 percent year-on-year. The number of containers delivered at the port surged 8.08 percent over the figure of last year to 2.69 million.
China-Europe trains also contributed to the city's robust logistics industry growth.
Statistics showed that in the first quarter of this year, Xiamen dispatched 26 China-Europe trains, carrying 2,232 containers of goods worth $99 million.
Major logistics projects guaranteed the stable growth of the logistics industry in Xiamen.
A spokesman for the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Transport said that Xiamen has introduced 62 logistics projects since early this year.
There are 18 projects under construction with a total investment of 8 billion yuan, of which 216 million yuan was invested in the first three months of 2019.
