Xiamen in East China's Fujian province is working to attract more high-caliber professionals from Taiwan, local media reported on June 18.
The Cross-Straits Chinese Redbud Think Tank, founded by the Cross-strait Tsinghua Research Institute, premiered at a meeting between talent agencies from across the Taiwan Straits.
The think tank will offer Taiwan talents and startups intermediary services, including financing, intellectual property protection and business management. Meanwhile, it will invite successful entrepreneurs to join it for academic discussion and policy introduction.
The newly-built platform will also set up an office in Taiwan, which is expected to organize Taiwan talents to try out jobs in Xiamen.
A total of 59 Taiwan professionals were granted certificates of specially-invited experts by the Xiamen Municipal Government at the meeting, raising the number of high-end Taiwan talents in Xiamen to 291.
The local government also established a Taiwan Talent Service Station in Taibei and Hsinchu to promote its investment and talent introduction plan and boost exchanges between tech businesses and investment institutions in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
By the end of 2018, Xiamen was home to roughly 140,000 Taiwan residents and about 3,000 of those residents were high-caliber professionals.
The city also houses seven national-level and 10 provincial-level cross-Straits youth startup bases, which have helped more than 3,200 young Taiwan people start businesses in Xiamen.
In addition, the Chinese city also offers high-end Taiwan professionals specializing in electronic information, photoelectricity, and modern services up to 1.5 million yuan ($217,000) in living stipends and 5 million yuan to help them start a business in Xiamen.
