Memories in The West of China, a noncommercial film by director Zhao Zhi from Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, held its preview in Beijing's Peking University on Dec 13.
The film tells about people of different ages and ethnic origins in a 100-year-old village. Li Xiaonan, the heroine, comes to Xinguang Village by chance and finds that it was where her father had worked before. She repairs a tambura broken by her father and mended friendships between her father and an old Kazak schoolmaster, and between the old Kazak schoolmaster and his son. The movie portrays the development of Xinjiang.
Some Kazak students in Beijing came to watch the film and gave high value to the Kazak features and folk music used in this film.
